Powder Room Renovation Reveal
My fiance and I purchase a house earlier this year and on all counts, it’s our absolute dream home! What was not so dreamy about the house, was the powder room on the first floor that guests use. In fact, it was so terrible and bad that when friends and family saw it, they were scared to use it because they thought it was haunted. I assured them that although it looked scary, it was deep cleaned by professionals and safe to use! But if I were to be honest, I didn’t blame them one bit, I didn’t even want to use it. Here is what the bathroom looked like when we purchased the home:
Because our house is predominantly black and white with original wood flooring, I wanted to keep the integrity of the look and feel of the house and carry it throughout each space. For our powder room, it’s basically a glorified closet with a toilet…by that, I mean it’s a super tiny space with an uneven ceiling line. It’s a tough space to work through! Here’s what we did to brighten up and open the space to create a modern powder room that everyone now loves!
ONE | We painted the entire powder room white to immediately brighten the space and make the room look bigger. We kept the original black floorboard trim as a design accent.
TWO | We added one accent wall only and used shiplap to create a modern farmhouse feel. In a small space like this, only one accent wall is needed to keep the space focused.
THREE | The original sink was a built in counter. We took that out and put a pedestal sink in instead to save space and add to the character of the space.
FOUR | To accent our space accordingly, we chose black accents as our first priority and champagne gold as a second priority. Everything from the lights to the frames, soaps, diffusers, etc. are all black to create a modern feel against the white space. We then chose to use champagne gold for the faucet and mirror only. To warm up the space, we chose to use a wicker basket for added texture.
FIVE | The final piece to any modern space, is a leafy plant to add life.
We love our powder room now and everyone who comes over always comments on how much they love this room now. Now guests can feel comfortable coming to our house without feeling like the powder room might be haunted…crisis averted, whew!
