Peony Tablescape
For floral enthusiasts, the month of May always bring so much excitement because it is peony season! Peonies are one of the most beloved flowers because of the delicacy and romance that it brings. All flowers have a love language (as so many of us in the industry like to say) and the peony is no different, symbolizing romance, prosperity and is regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage. Perhaps that is why the peony is so coveted by brides and lovers alike!
During the month of May, those of us in the know scramble to Traders Joe’s to purchase as many peonies as we can as they sell one bunch (5 stems) for $7.99, compared to flower markets that sell one bunch for $35.00. Can you blame us for hoarding peonies during this time?
With all of the above said, it’s no surprise that our gathering table of the month is inspired by peonies, love and self care. Especially during this time, it’s important to create things for yourself and to create things that make you happy. For us, that’s a good floral centerpiece and a table well imagined for gathering.
We chose to use coral peonies because coral is such a bright and happy color that soothes the soul. To balance the coral, we brought in complimenting hues of blush and cremes to create a soft and romantic centerpiece. You can read more about our floral recipe for the table here.
To create the table setting, we opted to use natural, warm neutrals to compliment the flowers. We used flatware with wooden details to bring in a relaxed vibe and paired the centerpiece with taupe taper candles.
We created peach stationery to compliment the hues of the floral and to bring a bit of whimsy to the table. We focused on a kitschy theme of “Eat well, be well” as health and safety is a priority for all, while maintaining the level of romance and elevation that is at the heart of our table. We created place cards for each guest that was adorned with a silk ribbon to emulate a mini bookmark to further bring a level of romance and whimsy to the table. Lastly, coasters that boast our theme make the table fun and approachable while adding color to the table.
